I have been going through old pictures and trying to clean out and organize lately. I have so many pictures that need to be put in albums and some that need to be scrap booked, I just haven't gotten around to it until now.
A lot of the pictures I have from middle school are of me and my friends making goofy faces while we bribed my younger brother Phil with candy to be our photographer.
So, when I came across this picture it made me remember why I cried so hard in the movie Marley and Me and had a major headache from all of the tears recently shed in that movie.
You see, this was Lady.
(Please disregard my outfit, hair and eyebrows before waxing. We lived on 11 plus acres growing up so the old barn in the background was in most of my childhood pictures.)
Lady was a girls best friend. She loved to cuddle. Eat socks. And pretty much anything we fed her, she had a little weight issue but seriously who doesn't! She enjoyed nice belly rubs and soaking up the sunshine. I don't remember a childhood memory that didn't include Lady.
I even remember when my cousin, I won't post her name on here for the sake of her identity and reputation being ruined, ran over Lady totally by ACCIDENT, not once but twice, it bothered my cousin more than it did Lady. I still give that cousin a hard time about it and she knows I am just kidding with her! Lady lived well for a few weeks after that. She was having rough days even before then, she was unable to walk due to arthritis and her appetite became much less than she was ever used to.
I can recall my mom taking her to the vet's office when she wasn't doing and well and my mom pulled back in the drive way early on a Saturday morning with tears streaming down her face. Lady was no longer with us. As an adult I know that was a difficult decision that my mom had to make but didn't understand that as a teenager at the time. It just didn't seem fair!
Of course, I later learned that sometimes life just isn't fair.
