I used to think 50 was old until I realized it's really not old. I came to this realization when I turned 25 last year because it was just 25 away from 50. My Mom turned 50 last Friday and we threw her a surprise party this past Saturday. Needless to say she was very surprised. Family came in town, her best friend from high school attended and lots of good friends. It went off perfectly!
The coolest gift my Mom received were her baby shoes from 50 years ago. My Aunt got the from the farm house that my mom grew up in, many years ago the farm was cleaned out right before it was sold and all of my Mom's siblings went to get things they wanted to keep. My Mom wasn't able to go so she told them the big things she wanted such as furniture pieces, artwork and keepsakes. My Aunt got a lot of boxes with nick knacks in them and this was one of the keepsakes she had years later. It meant to much to my Mom to have these shoes, it seemed so symbolic to me. No matter how much you age or how old you think you are, one tiny thing or memory can make you feel young again.
Happy 50th Birthday, Mom!
