When I was a child I used to call this day, "Veterinarian's Day". I knew that we took our golden retriever Lady to the Vet so I thought this was a day to honor them for taking car of our pets. I can remember learning that my Grandfather was a veteran and that was when it all started to sink in that the day was not about the guy who took care of our dog when it was sick but about the man who served our country that I call Papaw.
My Papaw served for 26 years, married the love of his life and has 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He is our family's patriarch, a retired electrician and an avid fisherman. He recently just celebrated his 80th birthday with a surprise visit from all his family.
My Papaw is such a huge role model to me and the reason we decided to name baby P, Parker. I pray that Parker grows up to be the man that my Papaw Park is.
My brother Scotty is currently serving our country in Afghanistan right now. He departed the day before Parker's baptism and this picture was taken on the 4th of July at a big cookout my parents had for him.
He's homesick but taking on the challenge each day and we are all counting down the days until he is back home next March. We love you Scotty and are so thankful and blessed to call you apart of our family.
